Wow, sorry for the huge wait. There's been a lot going on back at HQ, including our author getting sick for a while. But since you've all been patient, here's a sneak-peek from an early draft of Avaricum.

It's been a while since there's been an update, and we apologize for the delay. While martyfan is not participating in NaNoWriMo, she has dedicated the month to finishing Avaricum. Unfortunately, the story seems to have other ideas, and has been churning out quite a bit more than was originally going to be in the story, so it may take longer than expected. Right now, there are twenty chapters out of approximately thirty completed. Only time will tell how long it's going to be, but the story is currently at 23,578 words and growing. With luck, it will hit 40,000 words, perhaps even 50,000.

Some sources we have found claim that a novel is 30,000 words. Some say 50,000. Others say 75,000 or 100,000. What do you think is the length of a novel? I'd be nice to know how to classify this thing, once it finally gets done.

martyfan is currently focusing a good deal of energy on Avaricum, also known as the Plotkraken. After having been stalled on it for quite some time, it is important to write when the urge strikes. She hopes to complete the story relatively soon and get it to a beta-reader who has not been in on the planning, since much of the plot depends on mystery being maintained until the crucial moment. It is possible that the story may be completed before the end of the year, although no promises will be made until the first draft is complete.
